Sometimes, the most beautiful and meaningful experiences don’t come easy. You have to choose the road less traveled, even when that means you’re blazing your own trail.

Farmers from the highlands around L’Aquila have been calling the area “Costa di Maggio” since time can remember. The name was born from the uncertainty of the food supply during the period between the harsh winter, and the regrowth happening in May. In this way, Costa di Maggio symbolized all their hard work finally coming to fruition.

On the back of those farmers’ centuries of hard work is where we find unexplored beauty. Surrounded by the timeless charm of the ancient village of Fontecchio, Costa di Maggio Restaurant and Hospitality offers guests a rejuvenating experience in the unspoiled and unassuming atmosphere of Abruzzo Aquilano.

Each corner of our region is filled with stories just waiting to be told. At Costa di Maggio, each room is like a chapter in a book – telling tales of important places or people from Fontecchio’s history. This is how we choose to celebrate and share the rich cultural and natural heritage of our beautiful little piece of Abruzzo.

Territory

Fontecchio, a village rich with history, has been inhabited since ancient times. Nestled along the old Tratturo Magno path, used for centuries by shepherds moving their flocks, it’s a place that feels like stepping back in time. The town’s medieval roots are visible everywhere – from narrow cobblestone lanes, to grand stone archways and gorgeous limestone buildings. At the heart of Fontecchio is the central piazza, dominated by a beautiful 14th-century fountain which serves as a reminder of the village’s storied past.
